Tokyo Game Show 2009
Tokyo Game Show passed this weekend, as is tradition I had to
attend, though beginning to find the shows lacklustre each year. This
may be as I am maturing into an old oyaji and no longer as interested
in games as much as I was in my youth, but...No,I still go ape for games.
This year as with others seemed to be showcasing very little that was "new" or those games that were "new" had already been announced at E3; which seems to now be the platform for announcing "exclusives" in the gaming world. Exclusively for industry insiders only, while we the unwashed general public wait for leaked video exclusives from guest listed journalists, shouldnt the game world be giving us a little bit of a surprise at these events ?
I did get to see a PSPGo in the "flesh" so to speak, but no touchy.
Strange actually seeing it in real life away from the blasted hype. A
bit too small looking in my opinion and other than being slimmer,
smaller, and the slide out controls, nothing to put it over the other
PSP1000-3000 ranges as far as I could gather.
Main hall had its usual queue for x minutes to have x minutes of game play
tryouts; Microsoft have undoubtedly got this right at TGS, you can roam
around the Xbox area, get a look at other people playing and have a
quick go of a game with minimum wait time (15 mins avg) tho the Sony
PS3 stand was elevated above all other stands with a ticketing and wait
system, not even allowing you to walk around and view the games.Smelt a
little bit of that aforementioned "exclusivity" snobbery, though as
ever the PSP area was excellent allowing quick wait times and open
viewing.
Surprisingly very little Nintendo showcasing, has it rooted itself so
firmly as the family console it doesn't need to rely on ardent gamers ?
