Why it sucks to live at the beginning of a century

I remember in my early youth the excitement I felt at the close of the 20th Century; home PC's were inundating the market, everyone I knew had a "modem" and 56K connection to the internet, there were the first real chic mobile phones, games consoles and  applications were getting easier and easier to use; The borders for creativity, entertainment & communication via digital means seemed without border.

It seemed weekly a new technology was emerging to make the future brighter.

Cue 2010 and I don't see any of the hover cars I was promised in the 70's as a kid, there's no food pills, nor am I vacationing on the moon. Then I realised looking back on history (because damned if we forget it, tho we seem destined on repeating it), living in the beginning of a new century sucks because....

  Pejorative programming

sasqwach says:
interesting
sasqwach says:
"im a bad programmer" in google reveals 4 search results
davo says:
only 4?
sasqwach says:
"is a bad programmer" in google gives 123
sasqwach says:
noting programmers are largely pejorative and not modest
davo says:
lol pretty much sums it up
davo says:
hmm but "I'm a bad programmer" brings up 77 results on microsoft search
davo says:
"Is a bad programmer" = 243
davo says:
therefore google programmers are either better or more conceited than microsoft programmers

  Music on the move

nitrotracker_lite.png

Everyone loves the Nintendo DS for its innovative game play and touchy feely family oriented games, but if the guys at Nintendo had thought of doing something like this, it would be a winner for all us budding on the move music composers.

Based on the old Amiga "Tracker" music making concept, the loading of wav samples and playing via an on screen keyboard, it seems the DS dual screens was almost designed for this purpose, the top screen showing "notation" arrangement and the touch screen for user controls and keyboard.

I'm off out to buy a CF/SD-Card so I can get this running on my DS ASAP.

CF/SD, DS, ASAP ? - I gotta cut down on my acronyms, they're raising my BP and TMTLA rate beyond EU health levels...

  location free tv

locfree.jpg

I've been reading a lot recently about Sony's plans for "location free TV". Basically the jist is you will have your lightweight portable 12inch screen and be able to receive wireless high stream broadband media content delivered to the device all across the country you abide in, that means being able to watch episodes of Gundam while visiting your Auntie in Hokkaido or the simple joy of a quick bit of wireless news while in the toilet.

On portable media, recently Nokia have announced their contender into the world of "portable media devices", an all in one games playing, PDF displaying, movie viewing, music playing single unit. It's interesting to see a new emerging market from the popularity of the PSP's extra features - How many people do you know who say "I didn't get the PSP for games..." and go on to explain its the portable media aspect that hooks them.

About time too, we were promised devices like these 16 years ago in Mondo2000 and isn't it about time we have competitors to Apple's culture of bland consumerism ?
